Homeschooling While You Work
You already have a job. Nobody should pretend homeschool is your only job. The families who make this work long-term are not superhuman — they batch, delegate, and stop comparing their Tuesday to a stay-at-home mom’s Instagram.
This guide is for parents with W-2s, client calls, shift work, or a business that rings at the worst moment.
The math that matters
Public school = ~6 hours including transitions. Home school = 2–4 hours of direct instruction for K–5 when focused.
You do not need more hours. You need better-used hours.

Split-day schedule (most common for working parents)
Option A: Morning parent block

Four weekdays light + Saturday morning core block. Legal in Florida; tell your evaluator your calendar is non-traditional.
What to teach when you are exhausted
Always when you are fresh: new math concept, phonics/reading instruction, anything emotional.
When you are on calls: independent reading, audiobooks, review worksheets, typing practice.
Batch on Sunday (15 min only): pull next week’s lesson numbers from teacher manual — not planning from scratch.

Weekly minimum (when work explodes)
Bad week at the office? Hit this floor:
- Math 3×
- Reading instruction 3×
- Writing once
- Read-aloud 3× (bedtime counts)
You remain legal if instruction continues and records exist. Perfection is not the standard.
