Fourth Grade Homeschool
Fourth graders can handle real research — short, supervised, but real. Essays need evidence. Math errors get costly when problems span half a page. This year prepares them for middle school independence.
Skills checklist
Language arts
- Essays (opinion and informative)
- Main idea and supporting details in reading
- Grammar: fragments, run-ons, comma rules
- Presentation: read aloud with expression
Mathematics
- Multi-digit multiplication and long division
- Fractions: compare, add like denominators

Social studies

Essay framework (use all year)
- Prompt — “Should Florida protect more wetlands?”
- Plan — three bullet reasons
- Draft — one paragraph per reason
- Edit — read aloud, fix unclear sentence
- Final — portfolio sample dated
