First Grade Curriculum

First grade builds on kindergarten with stronger phonics, addition and subtraction, foundational writing, and continued nature science and social studies. All four core subjects are covered in a 4 core days + 1 review + 1 project day week. Florida homeschool requirements are met when you keep a portfolio and complete your annual evaluation.


What First Grade Covers

  • Language arts — Phonics mastery, reading fluency, sentences, and short writing.
  • Mathematics — Addition, subtraction, place value, and problem-solving.
  • Science — Nature science and simple experiments.
  • Social studies — Community, maps, and introductory history.

Weekly Structure

  • 4 core days — Focused lessons in the core four subjects.
  • 1 review day — Practice and catch-up.
  • 1 project day — Flex for projects, field trips, or pacing.
